Beastly classic will be a beauty

- ROGER HANSON

A TRADITIONAL French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, which is full of colour and music, will come to life on stage in Hobart this month.

House of Dance’s Michelle Williams said preparations were well advanced for the dance studio’s Beauty and the

Beast junior musical to be performed at The Friends School’s Farrall Centre on April 20 and 21.

“This production is one of the happiest and most precious shows I have had the pleasure of putting together,’’ Ms Williams said.

”Seeing the little ones on board this year makes it extra special.”

“The cast are all 15 years and under and working extra hard on developing their performances.

“Bringing young talent to the stage is something we are passionate about — singing, dancing and acting.”

Playing Belle in the starring role is talented up-and-coming young musical theatre performer Kimberley MacGowan, 14.

“Beauty and the Beast is the traditional French fairy tale made famous and modernised by Disney in two movies, most recently with Emma Watson as Belle.

“The House of Dance musical will feature all the favourite songs, such as Be Our

Guest and Belle.” At dress rehearsal yesterday, 25 dancers were in full costume, fine tuning for the performance.
