SECONDARY SCHOOL ENROLMENTS

GUILFORD Young College had many standout moments last year but it was in the arts the college really shone.

Among GYC’s numerous artistic achievements, Year 12 student Tom Loveluck was accepted into the prestigious National Institute of Dramatic Arts after winning hearts in the lead role in the school’s production of Grease.

Year 12 student Liam Meagher wrote, produced and directed the film, Daydreamer, for Media Production and received top marks from the external examining panel.

A body of work by Year 11 Glenorchy campus student, Ned Daniels, was judged the best in Tasmania and awarded the Examiners’ Choice award after the end-of-year exams.

The Southern Tasmanian Catholic Colleges Trade Training Centre for which Guilford Young College is the RTO and lead college, took out the Australian Training Awards Schools Pathway in VET Award for 2017.

Acting Principal Mathew Derrick said the college takes great satisfaction in building on the successes and achievements of previous years.

“Over our short history, GYC students and staff have established a record of outstanding achievement in their studies, careers, sporting and cultural pursuits and service to community,” Mr Derrick said.

“Our reputation is well recognised and continues to grow.

“At GYC, our purpose is to enable our students to grow in self-direction and resilience as our staff members encourage them to become responsible contributors to the wider community.”

Mr Derrick said the relationships between students and staff are caring, supportive and mature, underpinned by mutual respect and GYC has a powerful vision for its students’ future.

“GYC’s commitment is to accompany each student as that student determines his or her personal learning pathway to creating a future that will make a positive difference to our world.”

Mr Derrick invited all interested people to attend the Guilford Young College Open Days and Year 10 Parent Information Evenings in May. Details are available on the GYC website: www.gyc.tas.edu.au
