BASKETBALL

Men’s Qualifying Finals, from 5.30pm The battle to join the big guns in the semi-finals takes place in Cairns with two teams to join Australia and New Zealand in the medal rounds. England and Scotland are the outsiders, with Canada and Nigeria expected to get through.

ATHLETICS

Women’s Triple Jump Final, 7.35pm No Aussies, English or Canadians in this and Jamaica’s defending champion Kimberly Williams, also a world indoor titles silver medallist last month, looks the gold standard.

SWIMMING

Women’s 400m Freestyle Final, 7.37pm Ariarne Titmus. This will be a measure of her progress because she’s up against Jazz Carlin, the Welsh Olympic silver medallist from Rio.

ATHLETICS

England’s world 60m indoor champion Andrew Pozzi was fastest qualifier, but only .03sec separated him from Jamaica’s Hansle Parchment and South African Antonio Alkana.

SWIMMING

It’s all over in just a tick over 21 seconds, which makes the splash dash a real lottery. England’s defending champion Ben Proud is the clear favourite but look what happened to Kyle Chalmers in the 100m. Aussie hopes James Magnussen, Cam McEvoy and James Roberts will be in the fight for medals.

ATHLETICS

Women’s Hammer Throw Final, 8.40pm Australia have three women, Alexandra Hulley, Danielle McConnell and Lara Nielsen in this. The medallists from the 2014 Games are all back: Canadian champion Sultana Frizell, Kiwi silver medallist Julia Ratcliffe and England’s bronze winner Sophie Hitchon. Men’s Decathlon 1500m (heat 1), 8.45pm Some menace among athletics officials once ordained that the punishing 1500m should be the 10th and last decathlon event. Canada’s defending champion Damian Warner had a strong Day 1 performance and Brisbane’s Cedric Dubler will aim to be among the minor medals.

SWIMMING

Men’s 1500m Freestyle Final, 9.03pm A classic showdown – Mack Horton v Jack McLoughlin. The Aussie duo are the standout contenders and McLoughlin’s first national title in this pool a month ago means he is right there. Women’s (9.43pm) and Men’s (9.52pm) 4x100m Medley Relay Finals Having Cate Campbell swimming the freestyle anchor leg is the ace for the girls. Double gold for Australia would be the ultimate way to finish but the Aussie men will be challenged by England and breaststroke world record-holder Adam Peaty.

ATHLETICS

Men’s 400m Final, 9.48pm Five Australians have won gold in this event, the most recent being John Steffensen in Melbourne in 2006. The man to beat is Botswana’s Isaac Makwala, who was infamously banned from the 400m at last year’s London world championships because of fears he would spread an illness he’d contracted in the lead-up. Women’s 1500m Final, 10.04pm Caster Semenya’s domination in the 1500m is yet to be transferred from the 800m, in which she has won two Olympic golds. A 2017 world titles bronze medallist at 1500m, she nonetheless has a personal best slower than Aussie Linden Hall’s.
