Driver education program helps steer students in right direction

ADRIVER’S

licence is a must for many jobs and the lack of one is often a major barrier for young people in gaining employment.

In 2018, Jordan River Learning Federation Senior School students from Years 11 and 12 are participating in a pilot program, titled Driving for Jobs.

We are very excited to be working with various educational and training providers to develop an innovative and practical driver education program.

The program will build upon work the Senior School students have already undertaken around road safety and obtaining a driving licence. JRLF Senior School provides vocational courses for students to learn about growth industries such as the automotive, construction and community services.

In 2018, JRLF Senior School students will be able to gain much-needed driving experience to be eligible to apply for a provisional licence by the end of Year 12 and therefore be more job-ready.

Many students at JRLF are successful in gaining Australia School-based Apprenticeships. Several students have already commenced on-site training at various workplaces in the Brighton Municipality and beyond this year.

Having a driver’s licence will strengthen students’ opportunities to complete the traineeship and gain ongoing employment within their respective workplace.

Our students will have the potential to become safer drivers and road users, making immense impact and benefiting the community as a whole. Through the Driving for Jobs program students will link inextricably with education and vocational training providers to gain a driver’s licence so they are ready to work.
