Calvin caters for all learning needs

-

CALVIN has earnt an enviable reputation for student progress in Mathematics, competence in which is key to maximising options in Senior Secondary subjects. What began as a response to individual student needs has developed into a proven system to advantage all students in Mathematics at Calvin.

“Excellent teaching should advantage every student, not just the most able ones,” Principal Iain Belot said.

“Our approach recognises the importance of both attitude and mastering subject matter.”

The approach at Calvin allows students to ‘get ahead’ and to ‘catch up’. Students are consistently completing more than one grade level of maths each year. The averages for 2017 were 1.7 grades in Year 7 and 1.3 grades in years 8 and 9. Students of all abilities are making this progress.

It doesn’t matter how successful a student has been up to that point. The opportunity to improve is still the same. The ability to perform at their year level average is important for many students. Calvin has proven over the past three years that students can close their achievement gap. People learn different subjects at different rates. Some students become motivated at different year levels. Pathways into senior subjects become more accessible and high achievement becomes more likely. The Calvin system caters for all.
