Enough is enough

Time to stand apart from US

- David Harcourt Bellerive Mike Grey Margate Chris Davey Lindisfarne Herb Seewang West Hobart

NO matter what the consequences might be, to attack the present Syrian regime to try to stop the barbaric acts we have been shown needs to be done. The world’s citizens have to stand up and say enough is enough. While many words get said at the UN, nothing by any nation can justify such brutality. It’s the rest of the world’s chance to end these terrible acts. for the sake of playing with the big boys. Gough Whitlam extracted Australia in 1972 from the Vietnam regime and gained China’s entry to the UN. If Australian troops are to be in other people’s conflicts at least declare it against all junta governments, but please clearly define what is real democracy. Prove who fired or exploded the gas in Syria as it smells like the invasion of Iraq all over again. Let’s cease trade with all countries having no UN audits for war gas or napalm tied to eradication dates. Ban trade with producers of war goods who sell to non-military. Rid the world of surplus war goods.

Well worth the price

“PS leaders wield money and power” ( Mercury, April 14) is fantastic and they thoroughly deserve their high salaries if they provide solutions and monetary resources to address the homeless, public health system, traffic gridlocks and many other social issues.

We’ll need a trip for that

HOBART City Council asked the State Government to delay the proposed takeover of Macquarie and Davey streets until a transport report is completed by the end of June (“State clears way for better traffic flow”, Mercury, April 10). One needs to ask whether this provides sufficient time for Hobart City aldermen to manage another overseas study trip to assess options.
