Hobart shop joins push to set nappy-change record
SETTING a world record could be as simple as changing a nappy, with a Hobart ecoconscious business inviting the community to join in the 2018 Great Cloth Diaper Change.
The event is part of an international attempt to break the Guinness world record for the most cloth nappies changed in a 24-hour period.
Tiny Footprints children’s store, in Murray St, will host the event at Salamanca Lawns on Saturday from 10:30am.
There will be similar gatherings held around the world and the numbers from each will be counted towards the world record attempt.
Tiny Footprints owner Thomas Griffith said he saw the event as an opportunity to raise awareness of the environmental benefits of using cloth nappies.
“If you use cloth nappies fulltime or even if you only own one then come along and take part in this great event,” he said.
“We’re trying encourage parents to use cloth nappies for the environmental and cost benefits. You may spend $800 on cloth nappies but disposable nappies cost between $3000 and $5000 per child.”
Jessica Cooper will take part in the event with her sixmonth old daughter Vivienne.
“It’s a great opportunity to raise awareness of using cloth nappies and how easy it is,” she said.
There can only be one baby to one adult and all children must be shorter than 99.06cm.
The current record of 8459 nappies was set in 2014.
