Rainbow chance to shine for Magpies

- RENEE GODFREY

TASMANIAN netball star Kelsie Rainbow has been rewarded for her hard work by signing on as a training partner with the Collingwood Magpies ahead of the upcoming Super Netball Season.

Originally from Winnaleah, Rainbow was a standout as a junior, representing Tasmania at national championships and playing State League with Cavaliers. The talented Rainbow also caught national selectors’ eyes, being picked in the 2016-17 Australian Netball World Youth Cup squad.

Rainbow moved to Melbourne three years ago to pursue her netball dream and, after one season as a training partner with the Melbourne Vixens, she moved to the Magpies at the end of last year.

Rainbow has already impressed in her short time at the club, making her debut for the Magpies at the recent Tasmanian Netball Invitational Series at the end of March in front of a home crowd at the Silverdome.

“You always aspire to play at the top level, so to get the opportunity to do it, particularly in front of my home crowd, that was a special moment for me and one I’ll never forget,” Rainbow said.

Magpies coach Kristy Keppich-Birrell said the club was thrilled to have Rainbow on board. “She has put in a load of work and effort into the program and her own performance, and that is a credit to her professionalism.”
