League promises Tassie clubs say in fate

“I’m hoping [to receive it] mid to late May, a good six weeks before the June 30 date.”

AFL Tasmania has a contract with the TSL clubs for funding and a competition up until the end of the 2023 season.

Clubs have been alarmed by speculation of a move away from the TSL to a regional com- petition, replaced by a VFL or NEAFL team and a full-time Mariners.

Kay said she had “no idea” whether the licence agreements would be met.

“I think they are aware of the commitment they have to us but, again I would still say to everyone, everything is on the table,” she said.

“There will be a lot of consultation with us all.”

Squires said consultation would continue ahead of the June 30 deadline.

“It was a productive meeting today and further important consultation with the TSL presidents, who are incredibly passionate about their clubs and the competition,” she said.

“I look forward to meeting with them again next week.”

Kay said while the focus of the steering committee was on the TSL and talent pathway, the decision would have far reaching impacts.

“Trisha is very, very keen to consult with all the TSL clubs ,so we’ve walked away today feeling much more confident and positive that our views and thoughts of our football communities will be heard,” Kay said. “You have to remember this is about Tasmania and its football.

“Whatever happens in the talent and TSL space dribbles down to community football, to junior football, so it is not just about us, it is about everyone.”
