Fresh drug hope for stroke patients
IN A world-first trial, a drug used for heart attacks has dissolved clots in stroke patients faster than standard treatment.
Stroke sufferers treated with the drug in the Victorialed study had less disability and more independence.
Unlike the current clotbusting drug, which takes an hour to infuse, it can be given in 10 seconds. Neurologist Bruce Campbell said reopening the blocked artery quickly was crucial for brain cells.
