Sarah’s bear-y delighted

- JIM ALOUAT

SARAH Rutherford is beary happy with the new Hobart Myer revamp.

She doesn’t care that there’s new clothing brands or that the store has expanded across its five levels.

It’s a furry component to the new store that has the nine-year-old Hobartian as happy as a bear who has discovered a pot of honey.

Sarah is a passionate fan of the Build-A-Bear Workshop, which has opened at Hobart Myer.

She has made 25 of the plush toys. They come in a variety of styles, from the classic teddy bear to dogs, monkeys, lions and bunnies. They even offer pop-culture favourites such as Star Wars or Avengers.

It was a family trip to Melbourne two years ago and a well-informed taxi driver that led to Sarah’s first encounter with the build-a-bear concept. She hasn’t looked back since.

“On the second last day of the year my first build a bear will be two years-old,” Sarah said.

Now instead of travelling to Melbourne to fulfil her favourite pastime, Sarah just needs to convince mum to take her to Hobart Myer.

“It’s great to be able to support a local store,” Mum Gayle Rutherford said.

Sarah has already taken advantage of the Hobart workshop.

“I got Belle from Beauty and the Beast,” Sarah said.

Like any proud parent, Sarah finds it difficult to choose a favourite.

“I don’t have a favourite but I want at least 40,” she said.
