Rabbitohs overrun

- DEAN RITCHIE

SOUTH Sydney star Greg Inglis last night was denied what he richly deserved — success in his 250th NRL game.

The Rabbitohs powerhouse continued his resurgence from a season-ending knee injury last year with another strong performance, but his team was beaten 24-20 by Brisbane.

The loss left Souths with a 4-4 win-loss record for the season, the same as the Broncos.

It was a big win for Brisbane, a team that entered the match under pressure.

Souths scored two first-half tries to lead 12-6 at the break but a try to Brisbane utility Kodi Nikorima early in the second half levelled the scores at 12-all. Brisbane winger Corey Oates nudged his team ahead in the 58th minute with a try and the Broncos all but sealed victory with a try to centre James Roberts in the 64th minute. Rabbitohs veteran John Sutton scored late to set up a thrilling finish.

BRISBANE BRONCOS 24 (Boyd, Nikorima, Oates, Roberts tries, Isaako 4 goals) defeated SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS 20 (Johnston, Sutton, Walker tries, Reynolds 4 goals) at ANZ Stadium, Sydney. Crowd: 11,123.
