Goddard bites tongue

-

BRENDON Goddard wants to tone down his fiery mood with teammates during AFL matches, saying it doesn’t help.

The veteran Essendon defender became the focus of attention after several on-field incidents during their Anzac Day loss to Collingwood.

Commentators ripped into Goddard for confrontations with David Zaharakis and Joe Daniher, who clearly were unhappy with him as well.

“That’s where I tend to go when, in my own head, things get a bit muddled and I feel like we’re going away from what we value,” Goddard told RSN. “I wouldn’t say I felt like it’s worked in the past — that’s why I’ve asked for help and continue to ask for help from my teammates and coaches.

“It’s, ‘When I go there, pull me back,’ to look me in the eye and say, ‘Calm down, calm down’ and generally most of the time the message will get across. I admit, at times like that, the message will just get lost because of my delivery.”
