Kamaric the catalyst as Pies keep sheet clean
STATE League premiership player and now Anzac medallist Ben Kamaric goes under the radar most weeks for Glenorchy and it is players like him who have allowed the Magpies dominate the early part of the TSL season.
The Pies midfielder was prolific for Glenorchy in its 20point win over the Tigers on Anzac Day and his efforts earned him the Anzac Medal.
The 21-year old agreed the Anzac game was a challenge for his side, which was playing its third game in 11 days.
“It was nice to play well individually but more import- antly it was good that the team stood up under pressure against a decent team,” Kamaric said.
“It meant a lot [winning the Anzac Medal].
“It’s such a historic day and not many people get to play on Anzac Day, let alone win a medal.
“I’m really pleased that I was chosen.”
Unbeaten Glenorchy sits on top of the ladder thanks to unsung players like Kamaric, who have helped the Magpies transition into a premiership possibility.
Glenorchy knocked off the reining premier North Launceston a fortnight ago and faces Clarence and Launceston in the next two weekends.
“I hope we don’t lose a game all year,” Kamaric said.
“But we can only take it one week at a time.
“We have Clarence this week and they’re a tough outfit when they’re on.
“As you could see for the majority of the game against North Launceston and Launceston, they were really competitive.
“If we are not switched on anything could happen.”
Having been there before as a member of Glenorchy’s 2016 premiership side, Kamaric believes the desire to win a flag is player driven.
“I think we only have eight or nine players from the premiership team still left,” he said. “That leaves around 13 other blokes in the team hungry to win a TSL premiership for themselves.
“I don’t want to just win one myself, I want to win multiple.
“Not many players get to play in the grand final, nevertheless win one.
“I really want to get there again and win it.”
