THERE is much talk about the cable car, but I wonder whether people are aware of the extent of the plans. According to the MWCC website, it includes a plethora of recreation­al activities. Many would have little chance of success given the changeable and extreme weather conditions, but all would result in destructio­n of the alpine environmen­t. Trashed mountainto­ps abound in Australia and around the world and still our government, hand-in-hand with the cable car company, seems hellbent on ensuring our mountain becomes AS a child, there was something very reassuring about the words “Crown land”. I thought Tasmania’s forests and magic places were like gifts from the Queen herself, preserved for us to enjoy and cherish. The inappropri­ately large-scale developmen­t proposed by Hunter Developmen­ts for Rosny Hill has shattered my childhood belief in the security of Crown land being preserved for the good of the people. Poison toll

IN response to John Paull (Letters, May 2), I have always held the belief the poison 1080 has been responsibl­e for the cancerous disease that has taken such a toll on our Tasmanian devil as well as other species killed from secondary poisoning of this disgusting­ly cruel poison. Let’s hope those responsibl­e don’t decide to use it where the disease free devils were found in a remote area recently. How about this for an idea? Stay away and leave them alone.
