Hopefully no Sunday sleep-ins for Chargers

- BRETT STUBBS

HOBART Chargers coach Anthony Stewart is hoping his players aren’t set for a Sunday snooze as they shift from their traditional Friday night home fixtures.

The Chargers (three wins and two losses this year) return to the Derwent Entertainment Centre tomorrow to take on the always strong Geelong Supercats.

“Sunday afternoon games are always tough to get up for and hopefully our guys will come ready to go,” Stewart said. “It is a great opportunity for families to come along and watch the basketball.

“It is not ideal, Sunday afternoon games, but it is what it is and we look forward to seeing what we can do.”

The match-up that should get both teams and fans excited will see Hobart’s Craig Moller go head to head with Geelong import John Davis.

Davis is leading all SEABL scorers, averaging 28.3 points a game, while Moller is the king of the glass, with a competition high 15 rebounds a match.

“He [Davis] is a power forward import,” Stewart said.

“He’ll obviously be a thorn in our side but Craig Moller will certainly be a great matchup for him. We’ll throw Craig on to him straight away and try to limit his touches.”

As well as his rebounds, Moller is also adding almost 18 points a game and is exactly what Stewart hoped for when Hobart recruited the Melbourne United NBL premiership player.

“He’s been a true professional,” he said. “He’s been working out every day with the other guys. Tre Nichols is the same, quality group.

“I’m really happy with the guys and I think an exciting year ahead if we stay focused.”

Including tomorrow, the Chargers enjoy a run of four home games at the DEC in a stretch they hope will set up their season.

“I said the worst part of the season would be the beginning,” Stewart said.

“We are fortunate enough to have several home games in a row now against some good quality teams.”

The men’s game starts at 2pm, with the women Chargers (1-4 win-loss record) also to host the Geelong Supercats (3-1) starting from noon.
