AYC just too strong for Karana

-

AYC atoned for its Round 2 loss against Karana with a 55-42 victory in Wednesday night’s Premier League Netball match.

AYC took control early and despite its best efforts Karana just could not close the gap.

Karana was missing key players Renee Terry, Eliza Siely and Laura Bennett, and took a while. Once the attacking end settled the game was quick, skilful and physical but by the end of the first quarter, AYC was leading 19-15.

Korrin Browning was holding strongly in AYC’s circle and with Reagan Davie working tirelessly out front AYC was able to find Browning consistently.

AYC wing defence Chloe Bennett was able to shut down Kayla McMaster, and Karana continued to force the ball long, allowing AYC to extend its lead to 32-21.

Karana moved the talented Gen Sullivan from attack to defence and McMaster into goals, but Nat Smedley was spectacular at goal defence for AYC, helping to create multiple turnovers. AYC held a 10goal lead heading into the last.

Despite Sullivan working hard for Karana, it was not enough and AYC extended its lead to win by 13.

Bennett was named player of the match.

In the other match, Cripps Waratah overcome Huon in a hard-fought 43-39 win.

Player of the match was Elise Barwick from Cripps.
