Drawing inspiration from creative minds

- ALEX LUTTRELL

NED Daniels has his sights set on a creative-based career, so to get an insight into different art styles from around the state is a step in the right direction.

The Year 12 Guilford Young College student is shar- ing his pencil and pen drawings at the Artrage exhibition, which opened this week at the Salamanca Arts Centre.

The exhibition represents more than 100 individual works from pre-tertiary arts students across 22 of Tasmania’s schools.

The artists have used nu- merous mediums and processes for the exhibition, ranging from analog photography and traditional printmaking techniques to sculpture, video animation and 3D printing technology. The result is an array of work that reflects the last important years of secondary education.

Ned, 17, said his works were portraits of friends and family.

He said he wanted to continue an artistic path in some way at university, with the exhibition giving him an insight into other mediums.

“At uni I want to do something creative-related, so maybe computer graphics or architecture,” he said. “This exhibition, it’s diverse and interesting looking at the ways schools do things.

“Art has been a hobby my whole life. In college it amps up a bit with the work we have to do and it’s more technical.”

The exhibition is on till May 19 at the Long Gallery.
