Little things are the key, says coach

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

DWAIN Davie has revealed what he believes will be the difference between his Hobart Chargers women being title contenders or pretenders this SEABL season — one percenters.

The grit and willingness to do the little things got the Chargers a 63-57 win over Geelong last weekend. And Davie wants more of the same against Frankston at the DEC tomorrow.

“Getting the win against the defending champs is always a good thing,” Davie said. “The pleasing thing was that we had to fight and scrap all the way and the girls came out on the right side of it.

“The message for us is that we can score enough points to beat pretty much anyone. But we’ve just got to make sure we can play defence like that each week. We know that when we are at our best we can compete with anyone offensively, it’s making sure we are doing those one percenters consistently. That will be the difference between us competing for a championship or not.”

Despite being lowly on the ladder, Frankston will be the real deal.

“They’ve brought in two players since the weekend so they are coming to us for the first time at full strength,” he said. “We are certainly not looking at their win-loss ratio as an indication of their quality. They’ve got some good players and have probably been unlucky not to win one so far.”

The Chargers are sitting 2-4 heading into the game.

“We dug ourselves a hole to start the season, dropping a couple of games we thought we’d win,” Davie said. “We need to take advantage of the home court.”
