Campbell helps stars too
CAMPBELL Remess seems to have no limits when it comes to helping people suffering from life-threatening illnesses.
Campbell, 14, is the founder of Project 365, which makes bears for sick children in hospitals across Australia.
He also founded Kindness Cruises, which enables him to gift cruises to adults and children who have battled lifethreatening illness.
The Acton teen has made about 1700 bears and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for his causes.
But Campbell’s next project is breaking the record price paid for one of his bears, which stands at $240,000. He is trying to raise $250,000 by November 24, with all money raised going towards scholarships at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research as well as the Olivia NewtonJohn Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, where he also delivers bears for patients.
The teenager was surprised by Newton-John at her the centre in Melbourne last week.
In May last year, NewtonJohn revealed her breast cancer had returned for a second time and Campbell played a little role in her treatment. “I made her [a bear] when her cancer came back a year ago,” he said.
“We met on Friday ... and talked about how she’s going and just a lot of stuff.”
Newton-John yesterday received an Honorary Doctorate of Letters from La Trobe University recognising her significant support of cancer research and holistic health. Her outstanding achievements in the entertainment industry were also acknowledged.
“It’s truly an honour,” Newton-John said.
The 69-year-old Grease star was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992. But NewtonJohn said yesterday she was “feeling well”.
