GO

over the rainbow with Captives tomorrow night, as the Tassie punks launch their new album in Hobart. Captives — Aaron Damon (vocals), Marcus Wynwood (guitar), Mitch Damon (guitar), Ben Thomas-Gill (bass) and Matthew Damon (drums) — emerged in 2012 and set about making their mark on the national rock scene, with their “forest horror punk’’ tunes drawing comparisons to the likes of The Bronx, Motorhead and Clutch.

The band recorded their self-titled 2013 debut EP in Melbourne with producer Tom Larkin, with the singles Zombie Dog and Snake in the Pit helping Captives become one of the top 50 most-played acts on Triple J Unearthed in 2014.

Their second EP Butterflies, Diamonds and Lightning followed in 2015, as Captives found themselves sharing stages with the likes of Cog, The Damned, Pulled Apart By Horses, Grenadiers, Born Lion and Shihad. At the end of March Captives released their debut album, Over The

Rainbow, which was recorded with Larkin at Melbourne’s Homesurgery Recordings studios. A week before the album came out, the band gave fans a taste via the lead single House Parties and Black Balloons.

This month Captives embarked on their national album launch tour, playing shows in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

Now they’re back in Tasmania for two gigs this weekend. Before they headline a secret house party on Saturday night, Captives play at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel from 8pm tomorrow, with Melbourne rock trio The Quarters and Hobart bands JAX & the Wayward and Ultra Martian. Tickets are $14.30, go to www.oztix.com.au for bookings.
