Mercury (Hobart)

It’s definitely a larf-ing matter

HAVE

a larf with quirky Hobart indie-pop band Feed Rick on Saturday night, when they launch their debut album by headlining a big gig at Moonah.

Featuring members of other local bands including Unfolding Vostoks, Soda Creamers and Resilient Gums, Feed Rick — Adam Davison (drums), Lychandra Gieseman (bass, vocals), Maile Ingall (guitar, vocals) and Damon Leary (guitar, vocals) — is a relatively new project, but the group’s style has already seen them likened to new-wave outfits such as Devo and the B-52s.

The distinct styles, influences and personalities of Feed Rick’s members are reflected in the eight tracks found on the band’s debut album, Bark Larf, which they recorded last year with producer Zac Blain at Hobart’s infamous Rat Palace art studio. Also featuring Natalya Bing on violin,

Bark Larf is full of unexpected rhythms and time signatures, playful guitar licks and howling solos, and haunting lyrics inspired by (but not limited to) “Japanese landscapes, loneliness, the local shop, friendship, swans and brown water”. Two tracks from the album, Luigi’s

Dream and Tokashiki, can be heard at www.feedrick.bandcamp.com

Feed Rick launch Bark Larf at the Moonah Arts Centre from 7pm on Saturday. The event will also feature live performances by Philomath, StrangerStill, Julia Drouhin and comedian Matt Haubrick, plus a DJ set by DJ BTC and video art by Ariel Ruby. Tickets are $5 at the door.
