Time to shake things up

-

LACE up your blue suede shoes and prepare to get All Shook Up by Elizabeth College’s 2018 musical production, which opens next week.

Inspired by William Shakespeare’s 1602 comedy Twelfth Night, All Shook Up is set in a quiet mid-west US town in the 1950s — the kind of sleepy small town where dreams go to die.

The town’s Decency Act outlaws “loud music, public necking, and tight pants”, but things are about to get a shake-up, when a leather-clad roustabout named Chad is released from jail and rides into town.

Rebellious Chad brings music back to the village, and sends everyone into a frenzy as women begin to fall for the handsome stranger.

Natalie, the local mechanic, even pretends to be a man in order to get closer to her crush.

Is there true love hidden amongst the hysteria, or is it just another passing fad?

A hip-swivelling jukebox musical that will have you dancing in your seat, All Shook Up features songs made famous by the king of rock ’n’ roll, Elvis Presley, including classics such as Jailhouse Rock, Heartbreak Hotel, Don’t Be Cruel and A Little Less Conversation.

Elizabeth College presents All Shook Up in the school’s Performing Arts Theatre (entry via Warwick St) from June 1-9, with shows at 7.30pm Wednesday-Saturday.

Tickets are $28, $25 concession, phone 6234 5998 or go to www.centertainment.com.au for bookings.
