Raise a Goblet for a birthday toast

-

PREPARE to go absolutely mild: Jokers Comedy Club is celebrating its third anniversary next week by bringing the delightfully deadpan Elliot Goblet to Hobart.

A pioneer of the Australian alternative comedy scene, Goblet is one of the country’s most original, respected and sought-after stand-up comedians.

Originally known for his deadpan delivery and trademark goatee, Goblet burst on to the scene back in the early ’80s and has gone on to perform across Australia, the US, Canada, New Zealand and the UK.

He was a popular regular on Hey Hey It’s Saturday and The Big Gig, and has also been seen on everything from Neighbours to Pizza to The Footy Show. Goblet has received ARIA Award nominations for his albums Internally Berserk and Goblet’s Greatest Bits. He also has more than 1500 corporate events to his name and even wrote a best-selling book, Business According to Goblet, full of nonsense-coated business advice.

Elliot Goblet headlines Jokers Comedy Club’s Third Birthday Show at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. The event will also feature performances by Dylan Hesp, Annie Harvey and host Gavin Baskerville, plus giveaways and other festivities. Tickets are $22.30 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 62345998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).

Then next Thursday (May 31), Goblet will headline Funnies Comedy at Frank’s Cider Bar and Cafe on the Huon Highway at Franklin. He will be supported by Baskerville and Ben Klingberg, plus host David Moore. Tickets are $24 from www.trybooking.com/376746
