Comeback for Captain Kangaroo

- BRETT STUBBS

CLARENCE will regain its “fabric” when captain Brady Jones returns against North Hobart at Blundstone Arena tomorrow.

Jones underwent surgery after breaking his ankle against North Launceston in Round 4.

Playing coach Jeromey Webberley was delighted to bring his skipper straight back into the side.

“He’s pretty hard to hold back, extremely hard,” Webberley said.

“He’s the fabric of our club, he’s our captain.

“I think he leads the team really well and represents our team really well, so we are keen to get him back.”

Given the injuries to start the year, Webberley said he was more than satisfied to be in third spot with a 5-2 win-loss record.

And he said he was expecting a win tomorrow against last-placed North Hobart.

“For our guys it is about understanding, yeah, we expect to win the game, but it is about how we win and understanding they will put us under pressure,” he said.

North Hobart will again be without former Melbourne key defender Colin Garland as he continues his stop-start comeback from a knee reconstruction. Demons assistant coach Aaron Vince said there was no time frame on Garland’s return.

“Given he hadn’t played footy for 18 months we’ve just got to be really cautious how we manage it,” Vince said.

“He just wants to get out there and play, but it is making sure he passes all the tests from the physio.

“He does a really good regime, he knows his body well enough.

“We want him in the side 100 per cent as it just brings such a big lift to the young players, but we won’t bring him back too early if he’s not ready.”
