Star aims to shine again

- BRETT STUBBS

NORTH Launceston star Brad Cox-Goodyer sits fourth in the TSL goalkicker list, but the Northern Bombers skipper is far from happy with his own form.

After winning just about everything last year — the TSL’s and club best and fairests, premiership medallion and grand final best on ground — it would have been easy for CoxGoodyer to coast in 2018. But such are the standards of the champs and the champ both he and his team are striving for more.

He had an injury interrupted pre-season thanks to a hamstring strain, but is ready to unleash starting with Glenorchy at KGV today.

“My hamstring really set me back and probably rushed it a little bit too much on my return,” Cox-Goodyer said

“I’m just trying to get that match fitness back so I can run on ball because it probably wasn’t there for the first few games.

“I’ve been spending time forward trying to get that back and I’ve got it back now so I’ll be back on ball tomorrow. Hopefully I can play the way I did last year because I’ve not been living up to those standards at the moment whether that be through injury or what not, but hopefully I can get back to that.”

However, there have been plenty of stars to take up the slack, with playing coach Taylor Whitford back to his best after an injury-hit 2017 and last year’s playing coach Tom Couch dominating as a fly-in, fly-out player.
