BROOKLYN-

BASED former Hobart jazz guitarist Joshua Dunn is back home from the Big Apple, and will showcase his skills at a series of home-town shows this month.

Dunn was born in Canberra but raised in Tasmania, studying at Elizabeth College before earning a Bachelor of Music with first-class honours from the University of Tasmania.

In early 2014 he received a coveted Fulbright Scholarship, which allowed him to complete his masters degree in the US.

Now 27, Dunn has been working as a professional musician in New York since May last year. He has played almost 300 live shows, performing everywhere from Brooklyn dive bars and cafes through to prestigious venues such as the Lincoln Center.

He has performed alongside some of the rising stars of the New York jazz scene, including Hannah Gill and Patrick Bartley, and is also a staple member of renowned bandleader Dandy Wellington’s band.

Dunn has returned to Tasmania for the first time since moving to the US and will perform a number of live gigs this month, starting with the Hobart Jazz Club’s monthly concert at the Claremont RSL from 7.30pm on Tuesday.

He then plays down in The Void at Mona from 1pm next Sunday (June 17), at The Wharf in Ulverstone on June 24, at the Henry Jones Art Hotel on June 27, at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed at Grove on June 29, and at Hobart restaurant Yambu on June 30.

Dunn will also be making regular appearances at Dark Mofo’s Winter Feast (June 15-17 and 21-24), performing as part of a quartet alongside Hobart musicians Danny Healy, Hamish Houston and Tom Robb.
