Back to face drug charges
A TASMANIAN man facing drug trafficking and firearms charges touched down in the state last night after he was extradited from Queensland.
Mitchell Campbell, who is accused of selling drugs online and exporting them to Tas- mania via Australia Post parcels, landed at Hobart International Airport just before 5.30pm.
He was escorted off packed Virgin flight VA1328 from Melbourne in handcuffs by two Tasmania Police detectives and was met by another two plain-clothed officers inside the arrivals terminal.
Other travellers waiting for their luggage in the busy airport quickly pulled out their phones to film the action.
Mr Campbell was wearing a plain black T-shirt, black jeans and white runners.
He yawned and grinned before being loaded into the back of an unmarked police car.
The 29-year-old was arrested on Monday during a dramatic morning drug raid on a Gold Coast property.
Tasmania Police Drug Investigation Services and Queensland Police reportedly seized thousands of MDMA tablets, cocaine, steroids and more than $500,000 worth of Bitcoin allegedly used for drug payments from the Isle of Capri home.
A Tasmania Police spokesman said Mr Campbell’s extradition was approved by a Queensland Court late on Monday.
“The arrest relates to a number of drug importation incidents earlier this year,” the spokesman said.
“Further illicit drugs were seized during the arrest.”
Mr Mitchell is expected to face the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning.
