Mild ride after a wintry weekend

- CHANEL KINNIBURGH

AFTER a wet and wintry weekend — with higher levels of the state blanketed in snow — Tasmanians will enjoy mostly sunny conditions today.

After the morning fog clears, Hobart is expected to reach a top of 11C and Launceston will climb to 14C.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster David Matthews said most of the state would experience mild conditions over the coming days.

“Temperatures will remain between about 12C to 14C over the next couple of days,” he said.

“We’ve got a cold front approaching on Wednesday into Thursday, which will bring just showers at this stage. We might see some light snow on Mt Wellington on Friday morning.”

Lily Martin took advantage of the idyllic weather yesterday, taking her kayak out on the Forth River in the North-West.

“It was beautiful, the tide had just come up and it was very flat and calm,” she said.

“It was quite mild, there was not much breeze at all.

“I usually go in the summer but you can go kayaking all year round if the weather is nice.”

Hobart will be partly cloudy tomorrow with a top of 13C. There will be a slight chance of showers on Thursday before the temperature reaches 14C.

In the 48 hours to 9am Monday, rainfall totals of 20 to 60mm were recorded in the Huon catchment and 10 to 60mm in the Derwent and South East catchments.
