Perfect for TMAG

I FIND it hard to fathom why the National Trust would support the sale of the beautiful Treasury building, when one of your correspondents has already suggested the perfect alternative (Letters, June 18). Give it to TMAG to provide more display space for the many treasures under storage in the Rosny premises. That would enable the public to see the interior of the building and provide another city venue where visitors can enjoy the art and history of our Tasmanian culture. Alternatively, use it for displays and artefacts presently shown in the ugly 1960s extension of the TMAG building. When we reelected this government, did we recruit them from the Philistines?

Art showcase

I AGREE with reader Peter McQuillan (Letters June 16). I find it extraordinary that this Liberal Government desires to sell the Treasury Buildings to private enterprise. These buildings should be repurposed for the people of Tasmania. They could become an extension of TMAG to showcase our colonial paintings and artefacts.

Gender balance

WOULD it be better to have capable, competent MPs with common sense rather than female/male ratios?

Sell land, not churches

REGARDING the selling of church property to pay compensation to victims of sexual abuse there is a moral dilemma. Surely it can’t be morally right that to pay for one wrong you punish someone else. By all means sell the vacant land but not churches that are being used.

Everyone’s a winner

THE editorial ( Mercury, June 18) is spot on. Having just returned from Melbourne and Sydney, Tassie is definitely a talking point and tourist hot spot and highly spoken of around restaurants, clubs and pubs. Years of marketing has paid dividends and everyone is a winner.
