Bombers aim to get it right this time

- ADAM SMITH

LAUDERDALE is itching for another crack at reigning TSL champ North Launceston and believes the Round 7 mauling it copped was the turning point of its season.

The Bombers head to UTas Stadium this weekend on the back of three consecutive hidings at the venue, with last month’s 94-point thumping mirroring last year’s second semi-final margin, while the grand final (87) was only one goal better. Yet despite the recent horrors, midfielder Rhys Sutton believes the most recent meeting was the catalyst for the team to turn around its early 2018 struggles.

Now the team with a point to prove wants another tilt at the best in the competition.

“We have let ourselves down the last couple of times, but to be honest the last time we did play North Launnie, we started to feel like we were turning, our ball movement was quite good,” Sutton said.

“We were just letting ourselves down on little skill errors and if we can fix that us this week, I think we can be competitive. All the boys are really excited to take them on up there again and try and get the win. “We know we are a better side than what we have shown against them the last three times. Four games ago we did actually beat them up there, we know we can do it.”

Now in his fourth season at Lauderdale, Sutton has become one of the side’s most consistent performers. “It’s probably been my best year so far, the fact we had a lot of key players go down early in the season, you feel you have to step up.’’ LAUNCESTON has been dealt another blow with star forward Sonny Whiting walking out on the club.

The former state sharpshooter has joined NTFA side South Launceston.
