Brooks critiques Braddon hopefuls

- HELEN KEMPTON

BRAD DON backbencher Adam Brooks has issued a scathing guide to the candidates standing in his electorate’s upcoming by-election.

Mr Brooks, the Hodgman Liberal Government’s former mining minister, was demoted to the backbench in 2016 amid controversy over him giving wrong answers in an estimates hearing about whether he was still using a mining services company email account.

Premier Will Hodgman ordered an audit but the findings have not yet been released.

As would be expected, Mr Brooks rated Liberal Braddon candidate Brett Whiteley as a “proven performer who delivers for the North-West Coast”.

His description of Labor’s Justine Keay was much less flattering, calling her a “whingeing ex-Pom”.

Mr Brooks labelled Greens candidate Jarrod Edwards as a “phony” and independent Craig Garland as the real Greens candidate who makes former candidate Scott Jordan look like a Liberal.

Brett Neal was simply called the leader of the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party while the only thing Mr Brooks could say about Bruno Strangio from the Australian People’s Party is that he lives in Victoria.

Mr Brooks failed to mention Donna Griggs, who is also standing as an independent, or Democrat Joshua Boag.

The by-election will be held on July 28.
