Savs on a roll for hat-trick

- PETER STAPLES

LIGHTLY raced four-year-old gelding Savs Finale will be attempting to register a hattrick of wins when he tackles the opening race on the eightevent card in Hobart today.

The meeting was scheduled for last Sunday but heavy rain made the ground unsafe for racing, forcing the meeting to be postponed.

Savs Finale has been impressive in winning in lower grades at his only two starts this preparation and both were in Hobart.

He rises significantly in grade but he receives great weight relief as the Scott Brunton-trained four-year-old will carry only 54.5kg which is only a half kilogram above the minimum.

Brunton is confident Savs Finale can win again.

“He is a very good galloper and he will appreciate dropping in weight and I’m confident he’s up to benchmark 76 class,” Brunton said.

“We have struggled to keep the weight on him this prep but his work has been good leading up to this race and we know he will handle the rain-affected track.”

Brunton has a big team entered for the meeting but he rates stable newcomer Shenanigator the best winning hope.

Shenanigator will line up in a class one handicap (Race 5) over 1400m in which he has been allocated top weight of 59.5kg.

The gelded son of Artie Schiller won a 3YO maiden on debut at Pakenham in midApril after which he was tried at Flemington but found the going tough to finish near last in a field of 11, beaten by more than eight lengths, but there were excuses.

The three-year-old gelding went to Sale early last month where he finished fourth of eight in a benchmark 64 handicap over 1500m.

“I can’t fault Shenanigator’s work going into this race and he only has to take that into the race on Wednesday to be very hard to beat.”

Brunton also has Kalakhani engaged in the race but she is first-up from a spell and will benefit from the outing. Other top chances from the Brunton stable are Shot of Irish in the benchmark 70 handicap (Race 2) and Taramaya in the last, a benchmark 70 over 2100m.
