Humbled Hawks plot payback

- BEN GIBSON

HAWTHORN has a shot at redemption on Saturday when it meets former captain Luke Hodge for a second time this season.

Hodge joined Brisbane after retiring from the Hawks at the end of last year and claimed bragging rights when his new side defeated Hawthorn by 56 points at the Gabba in Round 9.

But defender James Frawley is keen to even the ledger when they meet at University of Tasmania Stadium.

“They gave us a bit of a touch up I think, so down in Tassie hopefully we can bounce back,” Frawley said.

“The only problem is [Hodge and I] are at opposite ends of the ground.

“It’d be good if we were a bit closer, we might have a little bit of a push and shove.”

Frawley labelled the clash with his old teammate as “a bit of banter” and the former Demon doesn’t see a problem with players changing clubs.

“I guess it’s a part of footy these days with the free agency and player movement,” Frawley said.

“It’s pretty frequent … and you have to embrace it.”

Frawley, 29, utilised his rights to free agency, opting to leave Melbourne and sign with the Hawks in 2014. “I don’t know if there’s any grudges, there’s definitely not on my behalf,” he said.

“I cop a few boos every now and again when I’m playing but that’s a part of the game.”

After playing 139 games with the Demons, Frawley will play his 200th match on Saturday.

“It’s pretty exciting to celebrate with my family and friends,” Frawley said. “But I think on the weekend it’s more about getting the win.”

The Hawks face lower ranked sides Brisbane, Carlton, Fremantle and Essendon in a stretch that could cement them inside the top eight.

“We’ve had the belief all year,” Frawley said.

“We’re eighth on the ladder and if you have one or two wins you can nearly put yourself in the top four.

“It’s very even and hopefully we string a few wins together and put ourselves up there and have a chance in finals.”
