All about weather forecasting
IF you missed last Thursday’s first Winter Talk at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, mark down August 2 for the second in the series.
This will be split into two sessions. The first, at 5.30pm, will be about Derwent River race weather forecasting for Off the Beach and One Design sailors. The second, at 7pm, will be on coastal and near-offshore weather forecasting for Cruisers. Both sessions will be presented by weather guru Kenn Batt and are open to all boat owners and crew.
Registration audit
MARINE and Safety Tasmania is undertaking a boat registration audit at marinas around Tasmania, including the major yacht clubs.
A spokesman for MAST said it had been drawn to their attention that a number of boats were kept in marinas here while the owners lived interstate.
The Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania this week advised members if they had a vessel kept permanently at the club marina, then it should have Tasmanian registration.
The email to members points out that registration fees are used by MAST to im- prove infrastructure, including navigation aids, the VHF radio network, public wharves, ramps, pontoons and public moorings around the state. The fees are also used to fund education programs, with the year fee currently $77.50.
If you need to discuss your boat registration email peter. hopkins@mast.tas.gov.au or contact him on 0418 145 439.
