Cox-Goodyer chalks up 150 games at 25

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

NORTH Launceston’s weapon of mass destruction, Brad Cox-Goodyer, will bring up is 150-game milestone against the Tigers at the Twin Ovals today saying he is in the best form of his career. The 25-year-old onballer, pictured left, has played in four grand finals for North Launceston and three premierships, the pinnacle coming last year when the Northern Bombers took the flag on a day when he was best afield. He said to hit 150 games so early in his career was “a massive honour”.

“There’s not many life members around in the footy program at the moment so to reach that at only 25, I’m pretty proud of achieving that,” Cox-Goodyer said.

“I’ve been at North Launceston since I was nine years old. They’ve got a very rich history that goes far beyond my time here and to be a part of this club, reach life membership and also play in three premierships, it’s massive.

“I’m playing my best football over the last couple of years.”

To win a flag, claim the Darrel Baldock Medal as best afield, and then the Alastair Lynch Medal as the State League best player, was a dream come true, he said.

“I had a pretty good year and I was able to take away a few individual awards,” he said. “But to win a premiership with a lot of my best mates in that side, and to win best on ground was nice, but there were a lot of other very good players on the day who made it possible.”

North Launceston is top of the ladder and on track for back-to-back flags.

“We’ve got five games to go for the rest of the year and this is where we’d like to start building,” he said. “We’ve had a tough period in our last four games – a loss and a couple of tight games.

“We’d like to flick the switch now and start to build toward a finals campaign.”
