Opportunities for every child

-

EVERY Tasmanian child from five to 17 years of age must be enrolled at and attending school or an approved home education program. Children can also attend Kindergarten from four years of age.

Children are encouraged to be enrolled at their local school. In situations where enrolment is desired at a school other than the local school, an out-of-area enrolment procedure applies. Contact the school for more information.

Students from Kindergarten to Year 10 may apply for registration with the Tasmanian eSchool due to isolation, medical reasons, or travel. This can be discussed with your school or contact the Tasmanian eSchool.

When enrolling a child in a Tasmanian school for the first time, the following information will be required: DETAILS OF ANY NEEDS the child may have to help their school better support and protect them, including medical information such as any allergies and an immunisation history

EVIDENCE OF IDENTITY for you and your child (birth certificates or other identification), and a document showing the child’s residential address.

Schools use this information to provide safe and equitable learning environments for all children and to support students’ progress through their education.

The new Education Act allows for more flexible enrolment options to help students to access schools in certain circumstances, such as: STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY: Dual enrolment for students with disability enrolling at more than one school to provide a flexible program to meet specialised needs. Contact the professional support staff at your local school, or the disability programs manager on 6165 5464. STUDENTS WISHING TO ENROL IN YEAR 13: Year 13 enrolment to support students who need an additional year of senior secondary education before moving on to further education or the workplace. Contact a high school offering senior secondary years or a college. HOME-EDUCATED STUDENTS: Part-time enrolment of homeeducated students up to two days a week to support their existing program. Contact the Office of the Education Registrar on 6165 6135 or registrar@oer.tas.gov.au
