Pathway for girls
DEVELOPING a pathway for the future of young girls is what St Michael’s Collegiate is committed to.
St Michael’s Collegiate is a leading Anglican girls’ school set in idyllic grounds in Hobart and offering exceptional learning opportunities for students from Kindergarten to Year 12.
For many girls, their time at St Michael’s Collegiate begins at the Junior School in South Hobart, which provides a nurturing environment that encourages creativity, exploration and inquiry, with education based on sequential development.
The Junior School campus is referred to as “Anglesea Village” and is home to students from Early Learning to Year 4.
Together with its villagestyle setting, the Junior School has a welcoming community feel with each year group from Kindergarten to Year 2 in their own “house”.
In Kindergarten, students are introduced to a rich program based on the Reggio Emilia philosophy and are also introduced to correct letter formation through the Spalding program.
Along with these comprehensive approaches, the school uses a range of learning spaces, including the Hobart Rivulet, with students achieving notable gains from these outdoor experiences.
From Prep to Year 4, learning is based on the Australian Curriculum and incorporates the key learning areas, which are English, mathematics, science, history and geography, the arts, health and physical education and languages.
Together with these core subjects, Junior School students are given the opportunity to study Chinese, faith and life, library, art, music, physical education and ICT.
This extensive choice enables each girl to discover her interests, develop her own voice and a strong sense of belonging, and become a confident member of the school community.
The teachers are key in supporting student success and are committed to ongoing professional learning.
“Collegiate staff are passionate and dedicated individuals who nurture all girls to be their best,” said Crystelle Vanderplas, who was a St Michael’s Collegiate leaver in 2017.
