A success by any measure
CALVIN Christian School is expanding due to increasing demand. The Primary School enrolment has hit a record level since it was established at Kingston in 1962.
Principal Iain Belot said parents are acknowledging the great learning that is occurring in the school environment.
“Our culture is well managed,” Mr Belot said. “We have strong role models for boys and girls.
“There is a positive impact from having four capable and inspirational male teachers in our primary school,” he said.
Mr Belot said Calvin’s NAPLAN results were among the highest of any school in Hobart.
“There has been a 50-point increase in the average scores for both Literacy and Numeracy in Grades 3 and 5 over the past four years,” he said.
“The reading and numeracy programs deliver more than one year’s learning growth in 12 months. While the growth is strong in every year level, we will almost certainly need to offer an additional Year 5 and/or Year 6 class in 2019,” Mr Belot said.
“We are also experiencing an increase in demand for Year 7 in 2019.”
Calvin Christian School uses a collective approach to teaching language, meaning students do not have to learn new rules and preferences each year.
This certainty to learning is important in building comfort and success.
“Our commitment to making school affordable to Christian parents and people who value a Christian education is another attraction for families,” Mr Belot said.
“There is now even more opportunity for families to enrol their child in one of Hobart’s fastest growing schools.”
Calvin Christian School was established in the belief that parents rather than the government or the church were primarily responsible for the type of education their children received.
Opening with 77 primary students in 1962, high school classes were introduced in 1976, followed by Years 11 and 12 in 1990.
