IF WE we want to improve outcomes in adult life we have to focus on the early years.

Gonski 2.0 — Through Growth to Achievement: Report of the Review to Achieve Educational Excellence in Australian Schools reinforces the importance of early childhood education. One of the five recommendations concentrates on “Laying the foundations for learning.”

Brain development research tells us that the early years are critical in shaping a child’s future health, learning and wellbeing.

What happens in the early years has consequences throughout life. The environment experienced by a young child sculpts the brain and establishes the pathway for long term cognitive and social outcomes.

Optimal development is dependent on a good environment; good nutrition and health; and caring and stimulating relationships — at home and in early childhood education settings.

A large body of research shows that skill begets skill; that learning begets learning. The earlier good learning starts the faster it grows.

Environments that do not support the young may fail to nourish both cognitive and non-cognitive skills and can place children at an early disadvantage.

Children who start school with strong learning foundations are more likely than others to be motivated and successful learners.

The benefits of having a program such as The Hutchins School Leap into Learning is that it supports the children as they become familiar with the routines and structure of a school.

Our early childhood teachers understand the importance of planning quality learning experiences for the younger ages to encourage enjoyment and participation. Leap into Learning includes gross motor, fine motor, sensory, imaginative and numerical experiences, as well as activities including cooking, song and story-time, art, craft, bikes, themed sessions, water play activities, dress-ups and many more.

Leap into Learning is provided at no cost and is designed for boys and girls from 0 to 4 years of age.

Our sessions run on Mondays and Fridays during school term times, from 9.15am to 10.15am. To assist with parking, a shuttle bus service is provided and departs from the Nelson Rd end of the Wrest Point car park at 9am.
