It all a-mounts to a celebration

-

ACCLAIMED Tasmanian musician and former Drones drummer Mike Noga has called on a “wish list” of local artists for an anti-cable car concert in Hobart next weekend.

Noga, who is now a widely respected solo artist, played drums for Melbourne-based rockers The Drones for 12 years.

He said next weekend’s Music for the Mountain concert aimed to spark discussion around the cable car and raise funds to help with the legal costs of fighting the proposed development on kunanyi/Mt Wellington.

Noga said the issue had been only “a faint blip on his radar” while living in Victoria, but the importance of the issue became clear after he moved back to Hobart this year.

“It wasn’t until I got back here that I realised this thing looks like going ahead,” he said.

The line-up for next weekend’s concert includes top Tassie talent including A Swayze and the Ghosts, The Native Cats, EWAH and the Vision of Paradise, All the Weathers and Lasca Dry.

“I kind of just wrote a wish list of my favourite bands down here, and I put myself in that list as well,” Noga said.

He will grace the stage with the full Mike Noga Band, which will be travelling down from Victoria.

“The gig isn’t meant to be a huge angry rally or anything,’’ Noga said.

“It’s meant to be a celebration of like-minded people who have their opinion and are trying to do something cool about it.”

Music for the Mountain is on at the Brisbane Hotel from 7pm next Saturday (August 4). Tickets are $15. available from www.oztix.com.au The Mike Noga Band will play a warm-up show at the Republic Bar from 9pm next Friday (August 3).
