Wonder-ful way to jazz things up

-

MELBOURNE jazz singer Meg Corson brings her trademark velvety vocals and soulful stylings to Hobart for one show only tomorrow night.

Although best known these days as a jazz singer, Corson has extensive experience in several music genres. She started out “treading the boards’’ in musicals, plays and cabaret shows, before specialising in jazz while studying at the Australian National University School of Music.

Corson first found fame as a founding member of internationally renowned a cappella group The Idea of North, spending nine years (1993-2002) touring the world, winning awards and releasing chart-topping albums.

She has performed with and supported everyone from Jose Feliciano, James Morrison, Vince Jones and Don Burrows to Groove Terminator, Delta Goodrem and Guy Sebastian. Other career highlights include singing for Geoffrey Rush’s 60th birthday, performing on the main stage of the San Jose Jazz Festival, and featuring in the AFL Grand Final entertainment at the MCG.

Corson, who is now a member of the Melbourne Gospel Choir, released her debut solo album Wonder Woman in 2016. In Hobart tomorrow night, she will perform songs from

Wonder Woman alongside some familiar jazz classics, plus some newer tunes by jazz artists such as Melody Gardot and Caro Emerald.

Supported by senior music students from The Friends’ School, Meg Corson performs at the school’s Farrall Centre (Argyle Street, North Hobart) from 7pm tomorrow. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 students/concession, available at the door.
