There’s plenty to C here
SPEND Saturday night with one of Australia’s most in-demand bass artists, when Brisbane-based DJ and producer Spenda C launches his long-awaited debut album in Hobart. Spenda C (aka Steve Lind) is renowned for his innovative, genrebending DJ sets; remixes for the likes of Peking Duk, SAFIA, Paces and Grandtheft; and original productions that have caught the attention of big-time international DJs such as Diplo and Ookay.
He has played at almost every reputable club night across Australia and New Zealand, and has appeared at major Australian festivals including Stereosonic, Parklife, Creamfields, Future Music and Good Vibrations.
Last month Spenda C released his debut album, Bone Collector, featuring 10 tracks that fuse bass music and hiphop.
Bone Collector features cameos from some of Australian hip-hop’s brightest rising stars, including Carmouflage Rose, Midas.Gold, Cult Shotta, Big Skeez and Miss Blanks, who provides the vocals for Spenda’s most recent single, My Type.
“The concept behind the Bone Collector project was to approach it the way a rapper would approach making a mix-tape,” Spenda says.
“Whereas a rapper collects a bunch of beats and then raps over them, I wanted to flip that idea and collect a bunch of vocals from some of my favourite artists and build the songs around them.
“I’m really proud of this project and super thankful to all the amazing artists who believed in the vision.”
To launch Bone Collector, Spenda C has set off on a tour of Australia and New Zealand, introducing live elements to his usual show in order to help bring his new music to life. The tour finishes with a show at Hobart’s Waratah Hotel from 9pm on Saturday. Tickets are $23.50, go to www.oztix.com.au for bookings.
