Comedy brings out the best of Burnie

YOU’VE seen Josh Earl and The Bedroom Philosophe­r. Now meet Brodi Lucas — the latest comedian to emerge from the unlikely comedy hotspot of Burnie, and next week’s headline act at Jokers Comedy Club. A former Raw Comedy state finalist, Lucas performed his solo stand-up show My Mum Thinks I’m Funny at the 2014 Melbourne Internatio­nal Comedy Festival, with the Herald Sun d describing ibing it as “genuine, g warm, and lig lightheart­ed”. Lucas is now based in H Hobart, where he’s enrolled in a university course he do doesn’t understand and em employed in a job where he al almost accidental­ly kills pe people on a regular basis. Jokers Comedy Club will be all about showcasing no northern Tasmanian talent ne next week, with Lucas jo joined by former La Launceston character co comedian Dylan Hesp, w who represente­d Ta Tasmania in the 2012 Raw co comedy national final. Hesp has most recently been seen in the ABC TV program Sando, and continues to make the internet laugh via his highly successful YouTube channel — home to many of his delightful­ly silly and true-to-life comic characters. Rounding out the line-up is Russell Redmond, who is best known as the creator of the popular “Launceston Memes” Facebook page and will be making his Jokers debut. Brodi Lucas, Dylan Hesp, Russell Redmond and host Gavin Baskervill­e perform for Jokers Comedy Club at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday.
