POLICIES of the major parties for the by-election: ection: HEALTH

Liberals: Claim that Federal hospitals fund- ing has increased by 42 per cent and say Labor’s claims of cuts are lies. Labor: Claims that health funding has been cut by the Liberals and has promised: $30 million for elective surgery if Labor is elected next year. $4.5 million for TazReach health services. $800,000 for aged care training mini hospital ward. $2.4 million for a headspace centre in Burnie.

EDUCATION

Liberals: Claim education funding has increasede­ased by 37 per cent under the Liberals. Labor: Claims it will reverse Government cuts.

JOBS AND BUSINESS

Liberals: Pledges $3.9 million for Jobs Ready Generation package. No repeal of legislated tax cuts for small business. No commitment to a Cabinet position for a federal small business minister. An indexed and ongoing instant asset write-off scheme for investment­s over $20,000. Decisions of the Fair Work Commission to be honoured by the Federal Government. TAX — RETIREES TAX

TAX — COMPANIES

Liberals: Will cut company tax, including banks, by 2024-25. Tax cuts for companies with up to $50 million turnover to benefit 1800 businesses in Braddon. Labor: No $17b tax cut for banks if elected next year.

TAX — PEPERSONAL

Liberals: Say up to 40,000 people in Braddon will get a $530 a year tax cut. Labor: Says it will give bigger, better, fairer tax cuts whereby everyone earning less than $95,000 will be up to $398 better off.

ROADS

Liberal: $60 million for Bass Highway between Wynyard and Marrawah announced in budget. $10 million for Murchison Highway. Labor: $60 million for Bass Highway.

PENSIONS

Liberals: No new policy announced. Labor: Claims it will reverse cuts to pensions including the $14 a fortnight energy supplement.

GST

Liberals: Will top up Tasmania’s share by $112 million

over five years. Labor: SuppSuppor­ts no state going below a 70 cent and then a 75 cents in the dollar share.

FISHING

Liberal: $50,000 for preliminar­y consultati­on on location of where two artificial reefs could be located, and constructi­on.
