Time to bye before you try

-

UNLIKE the AFL, comedy doesn’t take a mid-season break — and popular sports satirist and author Titus O’Reily is putting in the hard yards on the training track during The Bye Round.

O’Reily has enjoyed a rapid rise to success over the past few years thanks to his unique, clever take on sport (particularly AFL), spread via his Knee Jerk Reaction and Highly Unhelpful columns and guest spots on Channel 7’s AFL coverage, Fox Sports, NOVA FM’s breakfast show and ABC Grandstand.

Renowned as the country’s least insightful sports writer, O’Reily explored how our sporting heroes — from Don Bradman to Steven Bradbury — helped shape the nation in his latest book, A Thoroughly Unhelpful History of Australian Sport.

Released last November, the book was such a hit — it has now gone to a fourth print — that O’Reily turned it into a one-man live show, winning rave reviews for his sold-out performances at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival.

Now O’Reily is taking a tongue-in-cheek look back at the 2018 AFL home-and-away season (so far) on his second annual Bye Round tour, which kicks off in Hobart this weekend before heading across the country.

He presents The Bye Round 2018 Tour: Manifestly Inadequate at the Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Saturday.

Tickets are $49.90, go to www.jokerscomedy.com.au for bookings. Under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
