AYC prevails in thriller

- RENEE GODFREY

AFTER trailing all match, AYC stole victory from Kingston Blues in the dying seconds with a 38-37 win in their Premier League netball match on Wednesday.

Kingston’s Jen Hanlon and Emily-Kate Garvey were outstanding in defence, shutting down Korrin Browning and capitalising on missed shots as Kingston took a 10-7 lead into the first break.

The second quarter saw Rebecca Strong and Sophie Visser from Kingston working hard in the goal circle while Olivia McGow was creating space and finding great depth in attack.

Reagan Davie was controlling AYC’s attack, however their feeding into Korrin Browning was at times ineffective. Despite this, AYC took the quarter, reducing the margin to one at halftime.

The tight contest continued in the third quarter with Lindy Aplin creating turnovers with excellent pressure as Kingston was able to take a 30-28 lead into the final quarter.

AYC switched to a moving circle in the last term, with Xanthe Pastoor moving back to shooter and creating space, but a few missed goals saw Kingston extend its lead.

However, some errant passing from Kingston brought AYC back into the game and, with a crucial rebound going to Pastoor, AYC snatched the win.

Player of the match was Kingston’s Erin Lucas.

In the other match, Karana Flames had a 68-46 victory over Huon with Karana’s Gen Sullivan player of the match.
