Brutal Pies ready to go

They obliterated North Hobart, now Tigers next on the hit-list

- ADAM SMITH

GLENORCHY coach Paul Kennedy will be looking for the same ruthlessness his side showed against North Hobart last weekend when the Pies head to the Twin Ovals today.

The Demons felt the full wrath of the barnstorming Magpies, who went within a whisker of becoming the first TSL team to hold an opponent goalless for an entire match at KGV before North kicked a goal after the final siren to end up on the wrong end of a 144point hiding.

And it is a similar attitude Kennedy is banking on his troops bringing against the Tigers, who have posed a few problems in their two previous encounters in 2018.

“Last week we had the focus don’t give North Hobart any encouragement; the week before Clarence gave them encouragement by kicking points and they stayed up and about,” Kennedy said.

“One thing I noticed watching the video … when North Hobart took that mark and the siren went, our players were genuinely disappointed. They really put the foot down for four quarters, they had an appetite to really suffocate the opposition, defend hard and attack smart over four quarters.

“When the Tigers are going well, they get as up and about as anyone in the competition.

“You have to be quick to adjust and lock the game down in those moments or else they will put a few goals on quickly.

“The two games we have played them, the second quarter in both of those they have really got on top of us and played really good football.

“We have seen from those two games when we slip away from the things we need to do to slow them down a bit, you pay the price.”

After falling a solitary point short of pulling off a miracu- lous comeback against Lauderdale, the Tigers head into the clash aware their best football is capable of matching the best sides in the competition. Sustaining it for long enough periods remains the focus for coach Trent Baumeler.

“In the back end of the year we are tinkering with a lot of stuff, what our structures are, reintroducing some things we shelved for a little bit to look at big-picture stuff,” he said.

“If we can replicate our last 30 minutes from Lauderdale for a full game, we could get a good result.”
