Honouring design excellence
A WETLANDS project at Burnie is one of 10 projects nominated for the state’s biennial Australian Engineering Excellence Awards.
The Burnie Waste Management Centre Leachate Treatment Project is offering a sustainable solution for managing landfill leachate and creating a positive environmental and community legacy within a decommissioned landfill site.
A wetlands and an infiltration forest were designed by Syrinx Environmental for the on-site treatment and evapotranspiration/infiltration of landfill leachate.
Other projects nominated include the Kimberley Rail Bridge Emergency Reconstruction by Pitt & Sherry and VEC Civil Engineering; the Royal Hobart Hospital Demolition by Hazell Bros Group Pty Ltd and Aldanmark; and the TasNetworks Backbone Radio Upgrade Stage 2 by TasNetworks and Fujitsu Australia.
“These nominations span many industry sectors including energy, transport, environmental management and advanced manufacturing,” said Engineers Australia (Tasmania) General Manager Vicki Gardiner.
“The projects were undertaken and completed by some of Tasmania’s most iconic companies and GBEs, such as Hazell Bros, Caterpillar Underground Mining, TasNetworks, Entura, Aldanmark and Pitt & Sherry.
The winners will be announced tonight.
