Blomeley return bid for council
A HIGH-PROFILE Tasmanian political staffer is seeking to return to the Clarence City Council, 10 years after he resigned.
The chief of staff to Tasmanian Liberal Senator and Chief Government Whip in the Senate David Bushby is promising “vision, energy and results”.
Brendan Blomeley was an alderman from 2000 to 2008. In a brochure he tells ratepayers that he returned to Tasmania in 2015 after moving to the mainland to pursue career opportunities. He opened up on his divorce from the mother of his two children.
“I am divorced and like many of you the separation process was not without complications. We have re-established our home in Lindisfarne and enjoy all that is so very special about our local community,” he said.
Last year he had a conviction for harassing his then in-laws with abusive messages set aside after an appeal to the District Court in New South Wales. He was, however, required to enter into an 18-month good behaviour bond on two counts of using a carriage service to harass Julia and Ted Edwards.
In 2008 he attacked then Opposition Leader Will Hodgman over poker machine policy, questioning whether the Opposition, under Mr Hodgman, could be deemed as “genuinely capable of governing Tasmania’’.
In 2007 he called on Liberal delegates to preselect in Franklin technology consultant Daniel Muggeridge. The alternative candidate was the late attorney-general Vanessa Goodwin, who deplored “mud slinging” in the preselection battle.
In his brochure, Mr Blomeley said he would speak up for Eastern Shore residents who deserved improvements in public transport and roads, quality sporting facilities and safe neighbourhoods.
